The original Russian graphic art is rather scarce in the collection,
   but there is hardly and period, not represented by typical
    drawings of the eminent artists, especially of those (Mstislav
    Dobuzhinsky, Alexander Benois, Viktor Borisov-Musatov etc.),
    who lived at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
    The image of the Russian artistic scene is supplemented by
    the sculptures by Mark Antokolsky, Pavel Trubetskoi,
    Sergei Konenkov, Anna Golubkina, Alexander Matveev.
    The division of the Soviet art began to be formed in 1919.
     Landscapes constitute a significant portion of the collection,
    which is accounted for by the abundance of canvases by the
   Saratov painters, prone to landscape painting.

In the early 20's Saratov was a major cultural center of the Volga
   region. As early as in 1918,   on the basis of the Bogoliubov School
    of Drawing the Free Art Studios were open, later transformed into
    the College of Arts, where the arts were studied under the
   supervision of P.Utkin, V.Yustitsky, A.Savinov, A.Kravchenko.
     The museum's collection contains not only the works of the teachers
     but also those of their numerous pupils: E.Egorov, V.Kashkin,
    V.Belousov, I. Shcheglov.
   The quest for the message and new forms, experienced by
   the young Soviet art,can be illustrated by the paintings by I.Mashkov,
   P.Kuznetsov, A.Shevchenko, S.Gerasimov and   M.Nesterov as well
    as by graphic works by V.Chekrygin, A.Lentulov, K.Rudakov,
    V. Tatlin,   A.Ekster and many others.

The post-war decades witnessed the division enlarge its collections
with greater purpose: the scope of thems expanded, a number
of artists, who emerged in the early 60's (V.Ivanov, V.Popkov,
   E.Zverkov, D.Zhilinsky, the Tkachevs brothers), appeared in
   the exhibition. The Soviet art division, the most dynamic
   portion of the collection,is continually being added to,
   striving to recreate with greater detail tendencies of the
   present-day artistic scene. On the contrary the Western Art
   division is the most stable one, its core being a collection of
   the 19th century French, German and Belgian painters gathered by
   A.Bogoliubov. The center pieces are beautifully painted
    landscapes by the French masters Charles Daubigny, Camille
     Corot, Constant Troyon and Adolphe Monticelli.
